Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Senior Engineer (Structures), based in Lochgilphead/Helensburgh, Scotland.

Job Description

* Assist the Principal Engineer in delivering a high quality service within the Roads and Amenity Services' civil engineering consultancy arm Infrastructure Design, by ensuring the efficient and effective design, management and supervision of construction of roads, bridges, retaining walls, harbours, coastal protection and flood defences.
* Planning the delivery of projects relevant to the area of specialism to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
* Planning / assisting in the programming of projects allocated, including undertaking Feasibility Studies for forward planning.
* Lead and manage the Structures team in all its activities including the design and supervision of allocated construction projects to ensure that they are delivered safely and efficiently. The scope will extend to bridges, retaining walls, flooding, marine and coastal infrastructure together with Technical Approvals and Abnormal Load Routing.
* Prepare drawings, specifications and contract documentation for projects as allocated to facilitate construction.
* Carry out surveying, setting out and other ancillary fieldwork associated with the design and construction of projects, as required to facilitate the design and construction process.
* Prepare estimates and reports on technical matters, physical progress, quality control, on all projects allocated, and attend meetings as required to inform the Council of performance.
* Ensure that design takes account of the need for safety and compliance with Construction & Design Management rules.
* Expenditure forecasts as part of the Annual Budget Process for the Infrastructure Design (Structures) team to assist managers in long-term budget planning.
* Monitor actual expenditure against capital and revenue budgets to ensure that budgetary targets are met.
* Provide the Principal Engineer with regular reports covering actual expenditure against budget and forecasts of future expenditure.

Skills and Experience

* Incorporated Engineer or equivalent
* Chartered Civil Engineer. Member of ICE or equivalent.


* Structural design
* Roads related infrastructure design/construction such as bridges and retaining walls
* MCHW and the preparation of contract documentation.


* Civil Engineering materials and materials testing.
* Geotechnical design.
* Flood estimation, SuDS and bridge/culvert hydraulics.
* QA systems.
* Topographical surveying.
* NEC3 contract models.
* H&S, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
* Standard Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).
* MS Project.
* Planning process, land acquisition procedures and dealing with statutory undertakers.
* Autocad.
* Structural computer packages such as Sam, Cobras, Reward, Ring
* Marine works and design.
* Coastal protection.
* Report writing/presentation skills.

This is a permanent position.

The salary for this position is £40,000 - £45,000 per annum.
